Varias empresas son las que van en busca de un <strong>chip de inteligencia artificial<\/strong> cada vez m\u00e1s grande, potente y avanzado.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En esta carrera, el premio hasta el momento se lo lleva <a href=\"https:\/\/cerebras.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cerebras Systems<\/strong><\/a> con su chip Cerebras\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un chip t\u00edpico es del tama\u00f1o de una u\u00f1a, pero Cerebra\u2019s es un chip de inteligencia artificial del tama\u00f1o de un plato de comida.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inesem.es\/revistadigital\/informatica-y-tics\/files\/2021\/11\/Inteligencia-artificial-en-microchips.jpg\" alt=\"Microchip con inteligencia artificial\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.inesem.es\/revistadigital\/informatica-y-tics\/files\/2021\/11\/Inteligencia-artificial-en-microchips.jpg 500w, style=\"text-align: justify;\">El primer chip de inteligencia artificial lanzado por Cerebras se denomin\u00f3 <strong>WSE<\/strong>, fue lanzado en <strong>2019<\/strong> y ten\u00eda 1,2 billones de transistores y 400000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inesem.es\/revistadigital\/informatica-y-tics\/redes-neuronales-artificiales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">n\u00facleos de procesamiento<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su sucesor, el <strong>WSE-2<\/strong>, chip de inteligencia artificial lanzado este a\u00f1o, es capaz de contener <strong>2,6 billones de transistores y 850000 n\u00facleos<\/strong> manteniendo el mismo tama\u00f1o.\u00a0Adem\u00e1s, ha aumentado su <strong>capacidad<\/strong> de 18GB a <strong>40GB<\/strong> y la <strong>velocidad<\/strong> ha pasado de 9 PB\/s a <strong>20 PB\/s<\/strong>.\u00a0Un chip de inteligencia artificial bestial en cualquiera de sus sentidos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Este aumento de especificaciones en el mismo tama\u00f1o es debido, principalmente, al cambio del <strong>proceso de fabricaci\u00f3n del chip.\u00a0<\/strong>Se ha pasado de los 16 class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Si bien las unidades de <strong>procesamiento de gr\u00e1ficos (GPU)<\/strong> siguen dominando la inteligencia artificial, no fueron creadas para la IA en particular.\u00a0Por el contrario, las GPU se desarrollaron y utilizaron por primera vez para aplicaciones con muchos gr\u00e1ficos, como los <strong>juegos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Han hecho cosas incre\u00edbles para la inteligencia artificial y la supercomputaci\u00f3n, pero en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, <strong>los chips especializados en inteligencia artificial est\u00e1n en auge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cerebras es uno de los contendientes, junto con otros prometedores como Graphcore y SambaNova y nombres m\u00e1s familiares como Intel y NVIDIA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A la compa\u00f1\u00eda le gusta comparar el WSE-2 con un procesador de inteligencia artificial superior (el <strong>A100 de NVIDIA<\/strong>) para subrayar cu\u00e1n diferente es de la competencia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El A100 tiene un dos por ciento del n\u00famero de transistores (54,2 mil millones) que ocupan un poco menos del dos por ciento de la superficie.\u00a0Es mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o, pero el poder del A100 se realiza m\u00e1s plenamente cuando cientos o miles de chips est\u00e1n conectados entre s\u00ed en un sistema m\u00e1s grande.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En contraste, <strong>el WSE-2 reduce el costo y la complejidad de unir todos esos chips<\/strong> al bloquear tanto procesamiento y memoria como sea posible en una sola oblea de silicio.\u00a0<strong>Al mismo tiempo<\/strong>, eliminar la necesidad de mover datos entre muchos chips distribuidos en varios racks de servidores <strong>aumenta dr\u00e1sticamente la velocidad y la eficiencia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El dise\u00f1o del chip le da a sus n\u00facleos peque\u00f1os y r\u00e1pidos su propia memoria dedicada y facilita la comunicaci\u00f3n r\u00e1pida entre n\u00facleos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Y el software de compilaci\u00f3n de Cerebras funciona con modelos de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico utilizando <strong>frameworks est\u00e1ndar, como PyTorch y TensorFlow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chips_gigantes_%C2%BFModa_o_tendencia_al_alza\"><\/span>Chips gigantes: \u00bfModa o tendencia al alza?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por el momento, <strong>el chip WSE-2 se est\u00e1 utilizando en grandes proyectos de ciencia e investigaci\u00f3n<\/strong> que requieren gran cantidad de recursos inform\u00e1ticos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Las aplicaciones actuales incluyen la investigaci\u00f3n del c\u00e1ncer y el descubrimiento de f\u00e1rmacos, la detecci\u00f3n de ondas de gravedad y la simulaci\u00f3n de fusi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El CEO y cofundador de Cerebras, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/andrewdfeldman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Andrew Feldman<\/strong><\/a>, dice que tambi\u00e9n puede estar disponible para clientes con necesidades a corto plazo y menos intensivas en la nube.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Queda por ver si el uso de chip de inteligencia artificial gigantes es solo una
